Thoughts of a Content Creator

Without making a big hoopla, I’m going to change the tone and #pointofview of my V.D.M. social media accounts. Here’s why:

1. Though I work with companies and independent contractors on certain projects, it’s just me making this content, so the “We” was a decision I choose early on with the thought of growth in the forefront of my strategy. I’ve now decided, I want to be excatly where I am, until I am where I will be…If that makes sense.

2. The elevated tone I was clinging to in order to attract a certain client no longer serves me. My content strategy left me feeling uninspired and my copy started feeling stale.

3. I have always had a deeply feeling temperament, so the professional persona I was building for the business made me feel that I was building someone else’s business. I’d rather show what I can create from a real Brittany, and gain like-minded clients from there.
All of this to say…switch it up. If you’ve stepped out on faith and began a business, but your content feels foreign or lacks warmth to you… ADJUST YOUR STRATEGY. I’m rooting for you.

Reviews Help

If you’re a consumer or a business owner, you’ve most likely decided to contact a service due to great reviews. But where do you start with asking for testimonials and what platforms are the most important?

Here are a few of the most relevant review sites and methods. Trustpilot, Google, Yelp, Facebook and Amazon. According to 7 years of industry experience in online representation, these are the most effective platforms to request reviews to catapult your business. Let’s quickly review each platform.

Before the pandemic, Facebook switched their “Reviews” star rating to simple “Recommendations.” You have to leave at least 25 characters and you can now recommend or not recommend a page. Ask clients to follow and like your page so requesting recommendations can be easy and simple for Facebook users.

Google will not be dethroned! Most business owners with a dedication to their online presence attest to getting increased leads from Google after receiving reviews from satisfied clients. After, your Google business and/or Google Maps account has been verified, you’ll be able to request reviews for free. The recommendation is to send at least 1 review request through email and 1 review request through text per month.

Trustpilot boosts your spot in the Google search lineup even if you use the unpaid version. For this reason alone, get a business review account through this method. You need an email that ends with the same name of your website URL to easily activate your account. Emails that don’t contain your domain will cause the setup to be a little more difficult. Always provide at least 2 ways for the client to give a testimonial when emailing. Customers love options!

With Yelp, reviews don’t always stick. Yelp’s review algorithm takes into account how often each user gives reviews, how often the business gets reviews, the ip address of the reviews and more. It’s still a staple in the online presence of a business but you’re less likely to feel as in control of your rating. Also, language is important especially when asking for reviews on Yelp. “Visit us on Yelp” and emails that mention “We’re on Yelp” are the best method to capture testimonials.

Finally, many people forget to request reviews for their products on Amazon but it’s one of the quickest ways to grow your reach online. If you have products than can be sold through sites like Etsy, Shopify and Amazon, make sure to not only sell there, but request ratings and follow up with purchases!

When starting out, you may not have as many reviews as you’d like but do not compare yourself to others. Your consistent review requests will put you in the best position to gain more clients so you can properly grow and service them with passion.

All businesses start small

As good small businesses grow and change,
They may not be able to book without deposits, or provide services for lower prices (relative),
they may not be able to give next day services, or take late payments.
They might stop entertaining old ways because the business model didn’t work for them But…

It’s never because they’re uncaring. You don’t know what that small business goes through to give timely services/products while sustaining their equipment, homes, cars, employee(s), families, materials, insurance and so much more.

If you’re a #smallbusinessowner or a #smallbusinesssupporter , Comment a memory of your favorite small business experience or leave a ❤ in the comments.

Small Biz Blues

As you grow in your small business and lose/ part ways with clients, it can feel deeper than business relationships because of all you put into your clients.
The investments, discounts, education, communication and times you had your client’s best interests at heart may rattle around in the your brain.
The late nights to get email and text campaigns sent regularly, only to be told they didn’t read it and therefore won’t budge, can leave a stain🙃.
The GHOSTS who ignore every follow up and reminder after what seemed like a great business relationship can leave you puzzled.
But remember your business values and mission and please DON’T STOP!
Depending on your field and growth, losing a client may be inevitable, but losing your heart for your business and future doesn’t have to be.

Your future self will thank you 🙏🏾

Creating your brand kit

A Spanish teacher at @georgiastateuniversity once told me that I was more likely to learn a language that sounds/feels good to me. In brand creation, color and brand fonts are similar. When creating, solidifying or recreating your brand consider:
What 4-5 colors flow well together and compliment your company?
Do these colors together give the emotion you want to convey? Do they remind you of a time period?
What 2 fonts are you drawn to that compliment each other? (One can be a little fancier for headings while the other more readable for heavy text)
Do these fonts look simple enough to be seen on print materials?
After you’ve played around with your options in @canva , @adobesparkor another platform you’re in, try making a flyer or post with it 😉 Then you’ll see some ideas of how they marry together ❤

Amazon E-Book Publishing

In addition to having my own digital marketing agency, I am a published author!

And it’s not because I know somebody, have a lot of cash or have the best children’s books this side of the Mississippi! You truly only need Canva, or a simple program like this, $65 to copyright your work, time and effort and the Kindle Create program on your computer to convert your document into an e-book!

Side Note: Remember to make a few quick slide shows of the 1st couple of pages of your wonderful work to attract readers. Share them on social media and post them on any author pages you may have.

I have 4 books on Amazon now at https://www.amazon.com/author/brittanyjwest Different Monsters: Promoting Autism Awareness was my 1st published book and it was written for kids like by Auesome twin daughters.

My Family: All the Colors of the Rainbow was written for anyone who has ever been made to feel uncomfortable just because of their skin color and hair texture. I also have an e-book out including both of the title above!

My 3rd kids book do far is called No Fear Fishy. It encourages those battling mental illnesses like depression. Especially in these times, education on mental health should start earlier and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t see myself in the main character “Wittle Fish.”

All of these books have been created with the information at the top and don’t require any special training. So what are you waiting for? There’s no excuse for your book being unavailable for digital download!

What Other Passions Do You Have?

I love taking antique décor and rustic furniture and bringing it back to life! My hobby, BB Home furnishings, was my bread and butter for a short while and I had the pleasure of making custom pieces for like minded clients.

Though I still refinish and build décor for my home, it became more of a chore than a passion or something that I wanted to do full-time for others. I also plan to create a platform for my twin’s art, to further showcase the beautiful works my girls make while being on the spectrum! #differentnotless

Meanwhile, I’ve always helped people with social media management. Throughout the years, anything I know, anything I can do, I do it because it’s another passion of mine to help fellow entrepreneurs! I share, I buy and give free lessons because I want us ALL to eat!

I also learn from others because there’s always a more knowledgeable person and I truly like connecting with positive people. So if you need posts, marketing materials, simple logos or newsletters, I’m here!
.
Shout out to who I’ve already had the pleasure of working with🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
